I realized while falling asleep last night that there is a sort of "Caliph Holmes" story already, but in the other direction - the stories of Caliph Haroun al-Raschid in the Arabian Nights, who was said to go out in the streets of Baghdad in disguise and find cases of injustice and right them. (I know this because Theodore Roosevelt, when he was New York Police Commissioner, used to do the same - except not in disguise - for which the press nicknamed him "Haroun al-Roosevelt".)
(...now I'm wondering how much Commissioner Gordon in Batman was based on Theodore Roosevelt... ^_^)
