The beginning has the conversation between Lucinda and the unidentified narrator figure (implied to be her adult self), but I don't recall anything about the book as a book in it. There might have been a quick reference to Trinket -- I remember "what ever became of Mr Night Owl" (the reporter) and "you've even forgotten Tony and the Coppinos" -- but not a direct spoiler about her death, I don't think? Huh. I mean, there might have been variances between editions or something...
